Baudry Therapy Center’s Ideal Protein program works!!

If you are looking for real change, and the opportunity to look and feel GREAT come see Kathy Koehl at one of our FREE Ideal Protein seminars! You won’t regret it.

Check out what our clients are saying:

1) Dr. V  – “Doing fine. I will not go back to heavy. I am maintaining. I am regimented and usually drink a shake and have coffee in the AM. Scoop of chicken salad or tuna salad on lettuce at lunch. Maybe almonds or a protein bar at 3 or so. For dinner large salad, and or chicken, fish, steak like phase 4 with fresh vegetables steamed. I drink wine almost every night. On weekends I do what I want (within reason). Rarely drink hard liquor anymore. Exercise at least once per week but beginning more to prepare for a golf trip.”

2) Luci – “I am happy where I am and am grateful for you and think of you often. I have gained back a few pounds BUT I am the same size and all my clothes are still fitting well. I exercise regularly. I manage my weight with what IP had suggested, little or few carbs, and when I do consume they are usually wheat, but I do cheat. When I do cheat it is usually because I haven’t planned for the day.”

4) JB – ” I have kept the weight off! My diet has changed for the better. I remain active in sports and exercise and feel great. Ideal Protein and effective maintenance just makes your body MORE EFFICIENT….PERIOD!”

5) PW – “I continue to use the product as part of my weight management in maintenance. I watch my weight carefully and when I see the scale start to edge up, I get back on IP for a couple of days and the added pounds come right off. I have maintained my weight loss, active lifestyle and confidence!”

6) KAT – As an IP coach for some 15 months, I have learned a tremendous amount about nutrition, physiology, discipline and long term success. I can wholeheartedly agree with all of the above comments. I have maintained my weight loss and still fit into my ‘skinny’ jeans. The lifestyle change promotes a more efficient metabolism. Wise food choices and a commitment to exercise are the key factors. Eating ‘clean’ is the best gift you can give to yourself and your family. I do believe we will see a food revolution promoting insulin regulation in the coming years. Our culture is on the threshold of much needed change!

Ideal Protein information seminars are held weekly. For more information on Ideal Protein and weight management programs, send us an email to info@baudrytherapy.com, or contact our office.

What Is Ideal Protein?

posted on February 24th, 2012, by . Comments Off posted so far.

Ideal Protein- Your Last Diet! The Ideal Protein weight loss plan is one of the many services we offer our clients. You might be wondering, what is Ideal Protein?

Ideal Protein is a medically designed weight loss protocol that promotes rapid weight loss and long-term success. This 4-phase protocol helps stabilize the pancreas and blood sugar level while burning fat and maintaining muscle. In order to lose weight effectively, the pancreas must work efficiently. This means limiting carbs, fats, and sugars, and eating the right amount of lean protein. The Ideal Protein protocol pushes your body into ketosis, a fat-burning stage.

This 4-phase protocol varies in length of time for different clients. During the first two phases, dieters eat Ideal Protein products, lean protein, and vegetables. The Ideal Protein diet concentrates on choices that are low in fat, low in the glycemic index, and offer a moderate protein source. Clients begin to transition off the program when they have lost 90% of their weight. During the last two phases, dieters begin their maintenance routine, focusing on how to eat a healthy, balanced diet. Clients work with an Ideal Protein coach throughout all phases of the program for highly personalized coaching.

What can you expect? Clients can expect to lose an average 3-7 lbs. per week. On the program, energy comes from stored body fat. This low-glycemic diet helps dieters to manage their hunger and feel full longer. Dieters can expect quick weight loss without sacrificing muscle mass, as well as improved energy and reduced cravings. You can read more about Ideal Protein here.

Maintain Your Weight During the Holidays

posted on November 23rd, 2011, by . Comments Off posted so far.

The Holidays are upon us and no matter what, there will be challenges ahead for those who are concerned about weight management. The average weight gain from Thanksgiving through New Years day is 7.5 pounds! It will take a plan and discipline to avoid such an increase in weight throughout the remainder of the year.

Here are some tips on how to maintain your weight during the holidays:

Maintain an Exercise Program

First, you should maintain your exercise program and perhaps increase your cardio activity. Exercise will keep the metabolic rate up and sustain your muscle mass. Since muscle is the engine that burns fat, we want to keep it fired up. If you indulge in a meal laden in fat and carbohydrates, follow it with a walk outside. This will help you digest food and you will feel better if you get up and move.

Make Healthy Food Choices

Try to make good food choices on days where food is the center of the holiday. Do NOT skip breakfast! This will assure that you will be less hungry when you are faced with the a feast later in the day. Turkey is a good choice. Mashed potatoes, stuffing and dessert, not so much. To be sure that veggies are readily available for your holiday meal, why not bring them yourself? If you slip up and indulge in a highly caloric meal, do not beat yourself up; move on, and get back on track the next meal. If you use one large meal as a gateway to further indulgence, however, you are certain to gain weight.

Get Rid of the Leftovers

If you are the host of the holiday meal, pack up the leftovers and send them home with your guests. They will enjoy having them and you will have a clean slate to keep yourself on track. If your host offers you calorie-rich leftovers, accept them graciously and discard them as soon as you get home.

Limit Opportunities for Overindulgence

Finally, limit your exposure. You do not have to attend every luncheon and party during the holidays. Set your priorities and choose your events accordingly. You do not have to reveal that weight management is your priority, just politely decline some of the invitations saying that you have a “prior commitment”.

Keeping your body healthy should be your priority. No one performs their best physically, mentally, or emotionally when they are overweight. At Baudry, we encourage WELLNESS! We want you to feel your best! Enjoy your time with family and friends and have a happy and healthy holiday season!

Weight Loss Management: A Fresh Approach

posted on September 19th, 2011, by . Comments Off posted so far.

Dr. Alok Kalia, a renowned physician specializing in personalized, real life weight loss management solutions is coming to Baudry Therapy Center on Tuesday October 4, 2011 from 4:30-8PM.

Join us and learn to:

Control hunger and food temptations

Understand your body’s metabolism

Manage weight through sensible eating

Cheat without gaining weight

Become your own weight loss specialist

Most diets focus only on food. They ignore the other important player – the body! But the body’s response is important, and this response differs from person to person and from week to week. In this workshop, Dr. Kalia shows why long-term weight management can only be achieved by understanding the body and treating it as an equal player.

Dr. Kalia begins by taking the audience for a guided tour inside the body. What are the types of hunger? Why can’t we resist eating certain foods in spite of knowing better? How, and why, does the body make fat? Why does weight loss slow down after the first couple of weeks? Why is occasional “cheating” so helpful in maintaining long-term weight loss?

Next, Dr. Kalia converts this information into commitments and actions. What should your weight loss goal be, and why? What are some easy techniques for selecting the right foods? How should you eat a meal so that you know when to stop without being hungry? How can you gauge the proper amount of exercise?

The final part of the workshop is a training program. Participants are provided with a workbook and detailed shopping lists, menus, and recipes for the next two weeks. The program guides you in changing your eating habits while you listen to the feedback from your body. The goal is to make you your own expert!

Dr. Kalia has been named one of the Best Doctors in America and is a national speaker on healthy eating for Vistage®, the Executive Development organization. Dr. Kalia believes that good health starts with the right knowledge, and his presentations are designed to provide that knowledge.

This weight loss management workshop will take place at our office, on Tuesday October 4 from 4:30-8PM.

Cost: $99 per person *includes workshop and light meal

Burn Calories, Lose Weight with Pilates Training

posted on August 17th, 2011, by . Comments Off posted so far.

You need cardio to keep your heart healthy. You can get a great calorie burn while you’re on the trail, the stepper, the treadmill or the bike. The second you finish your cardio workout, you stop burning calories. However, after you complete your Pilates training, you CONTINUE burning calories! It’s that simple. ALL exercise is good, and our bodies need both cardio and strength training, but real results require certain strategies.

Numerous studies show that resistance training such as Pilates core work trumps cardio each and every time when it comes to burning calories.

What is Pilates?

Developed in the early 1900‘s by Joseph Pilates, the method consists of hundreds of exercises that initiate from the muscles of the core (mid-section) and flow together in a precise manner, concentrating on centering, control and breathing. Pilates focuses on strengthening the body’s core with mindful exercises that tone and stretch the entire body.  Whether it’s with mat work or with any Pilates apparatus (Reformer, Cadillac, Wunda Chair), you are resistance training either with the weight of your own body or against the springs of the apparatus.  You will increase flexibility and improve posture, balance and coordination.  It’s a body conditioning method that is enjoyed by all ages and fitness levels and has numerous benefits, including:

  • ENHANCED quality of movement equating to better endurance.
  • IMPROVED muscle strength resulting in balance and speed.
  • BETTER posture, as a strong core is needed to support a healthy & supple spine.
  • INCREASED functional movement with more motion in your shoulders, mid-section and legs.
  • MORE EFFICIENT lung capacity when performed with controlled breathing patterns.

The Pilates method is rejuvenating, restorative and invigorating.  It’s an equal balance of stretching and strengthening.  The core holds the body in alignment and allows the extremities to move in a more efficient and effective manner.  Pilates helps increase core strength and stabilization by creating simultaneous demands for strength and flexibility.  The body moves the way it was designed to move!

Why Pilates Training?

Pilates training is resistance training and gives you a metabolic spike for an hour after a workout because your body is trying hard to help your muscles recover.  That means you’ll burn an additional 25 percent of the calories you just used during your resistance session.  So if you burned 200 calories during resistance training, it’s really closer to 250 overall.

And there’s more good news when it comes to resistance training’s benefits:  for every 3 pounds of muscle you build, you’ll burn an extra 120 calories a day (at rest) because muscle takes more energy to sustain.

Join Us!

Come see what the buzz is about and learn how to burn calories more efficiently.  Our new client introductory special offers 3 private sessions at over a 25% discount (compared to purchasing single sessions).  Give us a call to schedule your appointment.

Rich’s Three for Thursday – Great Health Reads

posted on July 28th, 2011, by . Comments Off posted so far.

young pitcher exercises baudry therapyHere’s one for all of those little league parents, and young throwers. This article talks about some of the facts and myths about throwing injuries.

I also thought this article from the NY Times gave a great account of the latest science behind diets and weight loss. Give it a look and I’m sure you’ll agree, it’s more than just counting calories.

And if you’ve ever wished for a great resource to help you make better diet decisions for you and your family… I think you’ll like ChooseMyPlate — from the USDA… it’s full of helpful diet tips, suggestions and interactive tools.

But as an nutritionist will tell you, diet is only half the battle. You have to combine a good diet with a good exercise program. Everyone’s needs for exercise are not the same, nor are all exercises equal. So I think you’ll find this link from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) helpful.

And that concludes this week’s edition of Three for Thursday. As I said last week, this is a new series here, and I’d love to hear what you think about it, ways to make it more valuable to you or maybe just your thoughts on today’s posts.

Why do we gain weight?

posted on July 20th, 2011, by . Comments Off posted so far.

dieting strategies

Top 3 reasons why we gain weight:

1) Lack of exercise. We were designed for movement so exercise is necessary, not only to avoid weight gain but to keep the body healthy and able to continue to be able to move correctly. As we age, we tend to become more sedentary.

2) We eat more calories than we expend. Our demanding lifestyle has creates an environment for “grab and go” eating. This promotes poor food choices which typically leads to over consumption of carbohydrates.

3) Insulin resistance. As we continue to make poor food choices and consume more and more carbohydrates, our body becomes insulin resistant. The pancreas begins to secrete more insulin than we need to lower blood sugar and then the excess insulin causes the body to store fat.

In order to loose weigh all three of these issues must be addressed. Successful weight loss can be addressed by following a diet high in protein and low in carbs combined with a well planned fitness regimen.
