Our feet are complex structures made up of 26 bones, more than 30 small joints and many muscles, tendons, ligaments, and nerves. Problems in the feet and ankles are often, but not always, associated with arthritis, but can also be caused by ankle sprains, Achilles tendinopathy, and plantar fasciitis.
Anyone can experience an ankle sprain, but most often it occurs when you’re running, walking fast or playing sports. The injury occurs when the foot twists inward and the ligaments on the outside of the ankle are stretched or torn. Research shows up to 80% of people who suffer from a sprained ankle will endure re-injury at some point in the future.
Our therapists at Baudry Therapy Center will perform a comprehensive examination to determine the location and the origination of the pain. Often times, ankle sprains are a result of hip and lower back weakness and instability. Once we’ve determined the root of the problem, our therapists will design a custom treatment plan for you to help reduce any swelling in the foot and ankle. Through manual therapy and exercise, we help eliminate pain, improve strength and stability and restore full function and joint mechanics. Our therapists will also provide education so that you can reduce the risk of re-injury to the ankle and foot.
