BRIO’s Inspiration Interviews: Josh Bryant, DPT

Day in and day out, we preach a life of BRIO to our clients.  But what is BRIO? It’s living a life full of “vigor or vivacity of style or performance; full of energy and confidence.” It’s our mantra and we not only preach it, we live it.  Our team draws inspiration from all different sources. We thought it would be fun to interview Team BRIO staff and share what activities inspire and evoke BRIO in our lives.  First up is Josh Bryant, DPT.

Q: What activity most inspires you to add BRIO to your life, and why?

A: Offshore fishing.  I love fishing because each time you leave the dock, you’re presented with different conditions and challenges that you must solve on the fly. No matter how prepared, you may be faced with something you’re not anticipating. It’s constant learning from successes and/or failures on the water.

Q: How long have you been going?

A: My first time offshore was when I was 9 years old. I have been going ever since.

Q: Where do you like to go fishing?

A: I mostly fish out of Grand Isle, but occasionally we will head to Venice, Louisiana. My family has owned a camp in Grand Isle for over 40 years so its where I grew up fishing.

Q: What type of physical activity is required to go offshore fishing?

A. Most of the older fishermen refer to offshore fishing as a “young man’s game” because it is a physically demanding hobby. There is considerable work that goes into a trip, from prepping the boat and rigging the tackle, to being on the water for 10-12 hours and then clean up when you dock. It is certainly something that you must love to do.

Q: What do you do to train, or get in shape to help you maximize your fishing trips?

A: I would say that if offshore fishing is something that you love to do than you need to stay in shape as you age. I think a well-rounded program that addresses balance, strength, and flexibility 3-4x/week is necessary.

Q: Do you like to go by yourself or with others?

A: I enjoy fishing with friends and family.

Q: What satisfaction do you get out of deep sea fishing?

A: I found this interesting quote about fishing and it pretty much sums it up.

“The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions of hope.” – Anonymous

Thank you, Josh, for sharing your inspiration. We think this quote perfectly sums up what we love about our jobs!  The allure of physical therapy is knowing we get to help our clients reach their goals, mostly ones they believe to be elusive.  As physical therapists, we get to teach them how to attain those goals.  Essentially, physical therapy becomes a perpetual series of occasions of hope, and we are honored to be their beacon of hope.  What more could you ask for in a profession! We’re passionate about bringing BRIO to your life!  Stay tuned for our next BRIO Inspiration Interview!
